Let’s get a tire changer!

Part of our mission at Top Dead Center is to remove barriers for people to get involved in analog culture: ride motorcycles, fix their car, shoot on film, listen to vinyl, or even just appreciate the timeless and durable.

Our Wednesday night bike nights remain a time for folks to learn how to wrench - on their own or one of our current projects. It’s been amazing to watch folks show up and, with some guidance, start getting their hands dirty changing oil or adding pannier bags. One job remains the most daunting in our shop: changing tires.

We love and fully support our local service shops. Though, for those of us on a budget or with a backlog dozens of tires to change, it’s just easier to DIY. That usually means some brute force, busted knuckles, pinched tubes and sometimes a power tool of some kind. So to make everyone’s lives easier and remove another barrier to vintage moto ownership, we’re after a proper tire changer.

We’ve identified the Rabaconda setup as fitting the bill: it can break beads, tube or tubeless tires, gooseneck slip, and most importantly, it’s portable,

Rather than save pennies and never get around to purchasing it, the idea came up to crowdsource some funds to get one for TDC - making it available to whoever needed it, like we do with tools and lifts on Bike Night.
